INFORM to participate in Earth Day events
This year, INFORM will be participating in several Earth Day events, including the New York City EarthFair at Grand Central Terminal. Come by our booth, where we will be streaming our acclaimed The Secret Life of Cell Phones video, providing information about how to recycle your old electronic devices, and giving out pre-paid mail-in labels for recycling old cell phones. Better yet, bring those old cell phones with you – the ones you’ve been keeping in the drawer (as well as your pagers, PDA’s and all related accessories such as batteries and chargers) and drop them off directly in our collection boxes.
For cell phone recycling, INFORM partners with Collective Good, a company specializing in recycling mobile devices in an environmentally responsible way.
When: Friday, April 18th from noon to 7:00pm and Saturday, April 19th from 11:00am to 5:00pm
Where: Vanderbilt Avenue, to the West of Grand Central Station in Manhattan.
If you miss us at Grand Central Station, you can always visit our booth at the NYU- sponsored Earth Day on April 22nd, from 10:30am to 2:30pm. The street fair will be held on Washington Place, between Greene Street and Washington Square East in Manhattan.
Bidding for the environment
INFORM’s Online Sustainable Auction
INFORM raises awareness about the impact of human activity on the environment in many different ways. One way is to inform the public about the impact of their purchasing decisions. INFORM’s upcoming online auction of sustainable products will showcase environmentally preferable products and services that can help protect the planet.
Did you know, for example, that you can get countertops made from recycled glass and concrete? A composter made from a used wine cask? Furniture made from transit signs? Or a business card holder made from discarded circuit boards?
The items we feature must meet stringent criteria in terms of sustainability, and we also make an effort to highlight little-known businesses that embody high standards of environmental stewardship in their everyday practices.
By empowering consumers to make informed purchasing choices, we can make a positive impact on the health of our communities and environment. The auction goes live in mid-April.
Hudson Valley Youth Festival
We are delighted to participate in this year’s Hudson Valley Youth Festival and to organize a cell phone collection drive to benefit local schools in Dutchess County. The Fair will be held at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds on Saturday May 17th, 2008.
Click here for more information about the festival and for directions. For more information about the phone drive, please contact Laurie Rich, Coordinator, Dutchess County Fairgrounds Green Initiative at lrich@frontiernet.net.
