Brian Ohl, INFORM’s newest program director, will both expand INFORM’s waste prevention initiatives and work on identifying new focus areas to extend the impact of INFORM’s work. His interests and areas of expertise include extended producer responsibility, alternative energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental equity, the valuation of ecological services, and nutrition.
Brian comes to INFORM after having spent two and a half years in the Office of the Mayor, Office of Management and Budget for New York City (NYC), where he focused on environmental policy issues. While there he worked on the development and implementation of the twenty-year Solid Waste Management Plan for NYC, recycling and composting programs, closure and park development of the Fresh Kills Landfill, and export of waste from NYC.
Brian received a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Philosophy, summa cum laude from Ithaca College. Following his undergraduate studies, he received a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA), Cornell University. An article he coauthored, entitled “A Modest Proposal: Global Rationalization of Ecological Footprint to Eliminate Ecological Debt,” was published in the journal Sustainability: Science, Practice, and Policy (http://ejournal.nbii.org/) in April 2008.
