Carol Westinghouse
Cleaning for Health Program in the Northeast
Carol Westinghouse is a specialist in Cleaning for Health programs and in the environmentally preferable purchasing of institutional cleaning products. She joined INFORM in 2004 to manage the organization’s Cleaning for Health program. In this role, Carol has been instrumental in bringing together a wide range of stakeholders concerned with green cleaning issues across the Northeast, while helping public and private schools, colleges, businesses and health care facilities transition to environmentally preferable cleaning practices and products. Her tireless work in this area has resulted in the prevention of an estimated 50,000 pounds of toxics from entering the environment.
For 15 years prior to joining INFORM, Carol worked as an environmental consultant. She administered health and safety programs for workers and served on a variety of subcommittees investigating issues such as indoor air quality and alternatives to pesticide use. As a consultant at Jay H. Karpin Associates, Carol assisted industrial facilities in reducing toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Currently, she is a member of the Green Seal Stakeholders Group, representing NGOs to help revise Green Seal’s standards for institutional and industrial cleaners. She also serves on the National Collaboration on Green Cleaning Policy and Practice Work Group under a joint grant with Healthy Schools Network. Carol holds a BS in Environmental Science from Johnson State College.
