How to Override the Trane Thermostat

Too hot or too cold is anything but comfortable. When the environment is unpleasant, we feel cranky and unable to focus. Luckily, your HVAC system comes with a programmable thermostat, so it’s relatively straightforward to control the temperature. However, the initial settings don’t do it anymore.

When the programmable thermostat isn’t giving you what you need and it’s locked up, you may override the system to achieve the temperature you want for a moment. Whether at home or in a hotel, you can get the perfect temperature for a comfortable stay if you know how to override the thermostat.

How to override a Trane Thermostat?

Programmable thermostats operate on a particular schedule. They will modify the temperature according to the time of the day, day, and season.

When you install a new thermostat, it will quickly pick up on your habits and preferences on temperature. It will only take some days until the thermostat creates a schedule for your household. The program will be perfect for some time. However, there might be a day when you need new settings for the thermostats for some hours or even longer. That’s when you will use the override on the thermostat. As long as you push the right buttons, you can override any programmable thermostat.

What is the override feature?

Overriding your Trane thermostat is easier than it sounds. Override is an automatic setting feature on the AC unit that lets you shut off or turn on the unit for a short period. The action will increase ventilation in the house when the AC unit is off. When the thermostat reads “override,” the unit will run or not for the specific duration.

What does temporary override mean on the Trane thermostat?

The override button is the hold button. The button literally puts a hold on the thermostat’s current programming. You will be able to modify the temperature and tell the thermostat to keep the new temperature setting for a specific amount of time.

You can temporarily override the schedule of the thermostat at any moment. In such a situation, the thermostat will keep the new temperature until the hold period ends, or you manually cancel the command.

Typically, the temporary hold has an 11 hours limit. If you need the thermostat to keep the new temperature for longer than 11 hours, you must choose a permanent repository.

How To Override A Trane Thermostat?

Trane thermostats come with a Timed Override feature. The feature temporarily modifies the fan mode and the heating and cooling set point from the schedule. The override can be set for 23 hours and even 99 days with a Trane thermostat.

Here are the steps to take:

  • Press the Up or Down arrow twice
  • Select the preferred setting with the left and right arrows
  • Use the up and down arrows to modify the value of your current setting
  • Wait for 10 seconds or press the blank button for 2 seconds. You will save the setting and exit.

Can you Manually Override the Thermostat?

Most thermostats allow you to override the set schedule. You only need to adjust the temperature once with the up and down arrows. You may also use the + and – buttons.

Can you cancel the override on the thermostat?

You can cancel the override on your Trane thermostat if:

  • You have to press and hold the left or right arrow for 2 seconds
  • You have modified the system selection (Cool, Heat, Auto, Off, EmHeat)
  • The override time ends

What is the Purge Override?

Purging refers to clearing the hoses and internal lines of the air conditioner. Typically, it takes place when you recharge the refrigerant of the unit. It’s possible to override the process by pressing the Purge Override button. You will find the button under the zone panel cover on some models.
