Home appliances are excellent for our comfort at home. Every now and then, though, a problem occurs and we need to fix it before it aggravates. Trane air conditioning units are reputed for their revolutionary technology and reliability, but it doesn’t mean that they never ever get faulty. Some AC unit problems have easy fixes, such as a quick reset. Whether it’s the whole AC unit that doesn’t function or the outside unit, turning off and resetting the Trane AC unit is a tried-and-true method that may actually work.

How to reset the Trane AC unit

If you have a Trane AC unit, you will look for the Trane ac reset button. Like any other appliance, when there’s an issue, the electrical parts of the air conditioner will need a restart. A simple reset can help your AC unit perform as expected without further servicing from a professional HVAC technician.

Typically, the reset button of your AC unit is located in the outdoor unit. The button will be red or yellow and it’s clearly labeled as a “reset button.” The ac reset button is a high-pressure reset made to protect the system from any other damage.

If the thermostat isn’t correctly performing or not adequately adjusted, your Trane AC unit will benefit from a reset. Trane air conditioners don’t come with a reset button, but you can still reset the unit through the circuit breaker and the thermostat.

Reset your Trane AC unit through the circuit breaker

Start by turning off the power supply that connects to the compressor unit. Use the shutdown panel to turn off the power supply—you will find it next to the unit. After you turn off the power supply, use the unit breaker of the circuit breaker to shut down the power supply.

When you disconnect the system component from the power supply, you ensure there’s no more power running through your AC unit. You must wait 15-30 minutes until the system cools down completely. Once the time is up, you can turn on the AC unit breaker. Do it only after you’re sure that the thermostat is in the “cool” mode.

Reset the Trane thermostat

Please follow the next step to reset the Trane thermostat. Do it only after the Trane ac is idle.

• Press the menu on the thermostat screen
• Choose settings
• Select reboot
• Confirm by pressing yes and letting the thermostat reboot. The reboot process will need several minutes to complete.

If you have an old Trane thermostat model, you have to follow these steps:

• See that the Trane system is idle before doing anything
• Find the switch for the thermostat (it’s in the breaker box)
• Flip the switch to the Off position. Let it stay like that for 30 seconds or so.
• Put the button back to the On position. You will need to wait several minutes until the reboot process has been completed.

The Trane AC unit works best when the thermostat controls it. Manually turning the unit on and off is less effective. Try your best to let the thermostat do what it’s supposed to do. Keep the temperature setting at 78f degrees for cooling and 68f degrees for heating. Needless to say, you can decide what temperature is best for your comfort. Once you set the thermostat, you shouldn’t make further adjustments very often.

Is it ok to reset your AC unit frequently?

When you don’t use the AC unit for several days or in moderate outdoor temperatures, you should protect the AC unit by not running it. Reduce the thermostat setting to 55 f degrees in the winter and take it to 85f degrees in the summer. Whenever you want to use the AC unit again or if the temperatures dictate it, you should reset the Trane ac to increase the comfort inside the house.

Here are some of the common problems that force you to reset the AC unit:

The breaker panel cover is missing

If the cover on the circuit breaker box is no longer in place, pay attention and don’t touch the breakers. Don’t get close to the breaker box and call a technician immediately. The problem is a dangerous and high risk of lethal electrocution.

Exposed wires at the breaker box

The first thing to do when you intend to reset your air conditioner is to examine the circuit breaker box. Don’t get any closer to the breaker box if you see exposed wires. Exposed wires can cause electrocution. Call your local HVAC professional for assistance.

Breaker trips frequently

Don’t postpone servicing the AC unit if the circuit breaker trips frequently. When it happens, you may see that it cools off slowly. A loose connection or an exposed wire could be the problem. Don’t try to reset your AC unit if you notice this problem, as you might cause a fire. Again, it’s something for professionals to handle.
