Thunderbolt 3 is the latest version of thunderbolt developed by Intel. It is hardware interface that shares USB-C type connector with USB. It has the same design like USB-C connector. Thunderbolt 3 allows to speed up the connection up to 40GBps and it double the speed from the previous versions of thunderbolt, display port 1.2 and USB 3.1 10GBps. Thunderbolt 3 outputs the audio and visual signals at the same time. It is capable of supporting Display port 1.2, HDMI and fast networking up to 10GbE. It is developed by Intel under the supervision of Apple. Thunderbolt 3 is capable to deliver power up to 15 watts. It deliver power on copper cables and no power delivery on optical cables.
In the previous versions of thunderbolt, they rely on Display port type connector. Basically, Apple is the main and only manufacturer of thunderbolt. There are small variety of laptops used mini display port, so USB-C connector comes out with thunderbolt 3 and it gains the popularity.
Many thunderbolt 3 laptops are using technology because of the capability of sharing large data files with fast speed. It is a bonus for most of the users because with one computer port, you can connect thunderbolt devices, all displays and millions of USB devices. You can transfer data quickly between your devices by connecting to your PC with just one connection.
When did Thunder bolt 3 come out?
Thunderbolt 3 was developed in 2016 by Intel. Intel announced thunderbolt 3 for the newly invented Mac operating systems. Apple has announced the later version of Mac OS and it has the capability of supporting three or four thunderbolt 3 ports. Then in 2017, Apple invented the latest version of Mac that is capable of support two thunderbolt 3 ports as well as the iMac pro, which supports three ports of thunderbolt 3.
Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are produced in longer length but thunderbolt 3 optical cables has been released. USB and other physical devices are not capable of sharing or transferring large amount data with high speed but thunderbolt 3 is capable of doing this. When thunderbolt 3 has released by Intel in 2016, Apple start to launch the new version of iMac pro with three ports of thunderbolt 3. The main advantage of thunderbolt 3 is that it has USB-C type connector, which almost all laptops can support.
Thunder bolt technology was started in the late 2000’s but thunderbolt 3 was released in 2016 with a great changing.
